“Second generation Pakistani American, Bazigha Khan finds a deep sense of identity in her desi & muslim roots. Having spent her summers as a child in the motherland she became more and more enamored by the charms it had to offer as she grew older. Throughout the years she found herself constantly dabbling in its various artforms – whether it was gota embroidery, floral mendhi, calligraphy or miniature painting. Khan’s background in Architecture and Engineering makes her particularly drawn to the different facets of mughal architecture and ornamentation that permeate the subcontinent and she hopes to explore those themes further in her work.
Now as a mother she wants to pass down that love of heritage to her own third generation child… but with the added complexity and flair of the “-American” hyphen. Pakistan-American. Indian-American. Desi-American.
She hopes to create playful artwork that will not only hang in nurseries and playrooms, but will also speak to the inner child of the second generation parent. Finding artwork they can hang in their treasured living spaces – that not only looks beautiful, but makes them smile with a knowing grin. Khan is a mixed media artist based in Chicago.”
